Heather got me a Wii!

On Saturday morning Heather got me a Nintendo Wii and Zelda Twilight Princess. Before you think oh Heather is great girlfriend you have to realize the main reason she did this was that she kicked me in the knee again the night before, this would be the second time in about three days. I have really bad knees so she felt bad and I said a good girl friend would go out and get me a Wii. So she called Toy’s R us and they had one in stock so we drove over there, speeding most of the way and got one.

Heather had been trying to get me a Wii since Christmas; I had said I wanted one as a joke really back in November. So she had lined up at least once to try to get me one, one time they sold out just before her. Heather had even gone as far as to buy games for the Wii but not having a console. When I heard of this I told her to return the games and that I did not need a Wii. I have not had a console since my Super Nintendo and generally I do not play console games. Most of the games I play are generally not all that console friendly, strategy and RPG’s.

I played my nephews about a month ago and then I really wanted one. This is despite pulling a muscle in my back playing Wii Baseball and not being able to move for a couple of days. I had spent the last month popping into local Electronic Boutiques when I drove past but with no luck.

We spent the rest of Saturday and part of Sunday trying to track down controllers and nun chucks for the Wii, we now have four complete controller / nun chuck sets. We bought Wii Play to get one of the controllers, apparently the games are pretty bad but it only cost an extra $10.00 for games over the cost of just the controller.

Saturday evening we took the brand new Wii to Heather’s mother’s house and we played it a bit there. No problem hooking it up and everyone had a lot of fun.   Sunday I tried to hook it up the main TV we have at the house an old 24” TV, one of the wood ones. This was not a simple exercise due to the lack of inputs on the TV. But an hour later and a lot of swearing later it was working.

Probably the most exciting thing on the Wii is the virtual console. Again I have really played a console since the Super Nintendo so I missed a lot of good games. With the Virtual console I can download some of the games that I missed including Mario’s and Zelda’s.   I will write some reviews as time permits to write and well play the games.

Mario and Zelda are currently the top downloads for the Virtual Console. If you’re a Zelda fan and have not played it - A Link to the Past (SNES) is an amazing game.

A link to the past was the last Zelda game that I played actually. I had and well still do for my SNES, I think I played it through two or three times at least.
