The other day I got playing around with how my Nintendo Wii was hooked up to the TV and I was able to resolve the issues I was having getting F-Zero to run on the virtual console. I had downloaded another Super Nintendo Game for the virtual console, Romance of the three kingdoms and I had the same issues as those I was having with F-zero.
Since I was having the same issues this led me to believe that is was a configuration issue, I mean what are the chances that two games would be corrupt. Another option would have been that there was something wrong with my Wii, but everything was working fine other the SNES virtual console games.
I have the Wii hooked up to an old wooden TV that only has a normal coaxial cable input, there are no component inputs that you would see all modern TV’s. I also have a PVR hooked up to the TV and there is also a DVD player. The PVR has inputs but the DVD player only has outputs no inputs, this is pretty common. The Nintendo Wii has component output only not like that old Nintendo and Super Nintendo that had a coaxial pass through cables.
Before I hooked I put the Wii on the TV Heather has a DVD player on it and to get it to work she had to use a RF Modulator. This basically took the cable line and a component in and sent it all out on a component out. So originally I hooked the Nintendo Wii up to the RF modulator and the output from the RF modulator to the PVR. I think hooked up the DVD player to the inputs to the PVR.
Everything was working fine with the exception of the Super Nintendo Wii Games. So I had the idea of hooking up the Wii to the PVR and the DVD player to the RF modulator and I tried the SNES games and suddenly they both worked. I have no idea why N64 Virtual console games and normal Wii games will work through the RF modulator and SNES games will not, but they simply will not work.
The one issue that having the Wii hooked up to the PVR is that when there is no signal from the Wii the screen goes to static which is really annoying.
Anyway the mystery is solved, I have flipped the how I have Nintendo Wii back to how I originally had it setup since the static is annoying.
This is yet another reason why I should get a new TV =)
