Blackberry 8700 Mini Review

About a month ago my BlackBerry 7290 finally died, basically it was randomly rebooting, which is nice feature in such a device. The company I am working for is thinking of moving providers from a mix to Rogers / Bell to Telus. So they really did not want to get a new BlackBerry knowing I will only use it for a couple of weeks. So I was able to borrow a BlackBerry 8700 from one of my clients, they had some extra units floating around.

The BlackBerry 8700 is basically one generation newer than my old 7290 but the 8700 is such a much nicer unit. The appearance of the 8700 is a lot nicer it looks more modern where my old hand held looked like it was made by fisher price.

I also find that the 8700 is much faster reading emails, opening attachments, scrolling etc. The phone reception seems to be a bit better it still is not great but it noticeably improved. One big improvement is that the Bluetooth capability on the 8700 is vastly improved over the 7290. I have a Plantronics Discovery 655 which unlike I thought I would in my previous post I have not managed to loose yet or break! I found that with the 7290 the connection to ear piece would drop for no apparent reason and that I had to reconnect the ear piece. I am not having near the same level of difficulties now that I have upgraded to the Black Berry 8700.

So in short I am really happy with my 8700 and I am looking forward to yet another technology upgrade when we move providers. Looks like I will be getting a Black Berry 8800, I would prefer a Black Berry 8300 since it has a camera. However, for some unknown reason Telus does not currently support the Black Berry 8300, but both Roger’s and Bell do…
